Plastic is one of the most important invention for the modern world. Today, plastic has replaced many metal and iron items like the buckets we use for bathing. Furnitures like chairs have also been replaced by plastic. Numerous other articles have been converted to plastic. Plastic is both a boon and bane for the humankind. According to me it is more of a curse than a blessing. Plastic might be very light in weight but it is truly harmful and threatening towards both living and non-living creatures. The market is flooded with low-priced and colorful plastic goods and because of being colorful it attracts many people towards it and they tend to buy it. Being cheap people have begun to look at it as a dispensable product and a new term ‘use and throw’ has become the way of life. Plastic bags and bottles are the most common examples of dispensable products. Unfortunately, plastic is non-biodegradable which means that once it has been made its form cannot be changed without machines which contribute for pollution. One instance of people using plastic irresponsibly is that instead of carrying a bottle from home sometimes we buy the plastic water bottles and throw it away. This act shows how we are inaccurately dumping plastic and not reusing it. However, plastic has become an immense part of our lives and we cannot stop to use plastic entirely in a day. It will take time and we need to reduce the usage of plastic step by step until we stop totally using it. An individual can reduce plastic in the following ways. We can reuse plastic bottles and carry a jute or cotton bag instead of using a plastic bag because jute and cotton are bio-degradable and eco-friendly. The water bodies are polluted because of incorrect disposal of plastic and other waste products. Animals are dying after eating plastic bags. Drains get clogged and the soil is also losing its fertility because of plastic. Awareness is being spread against the use of plastic. It is only with consorted effort from each of us that we can prevent plastic from choking our mother earth, in turn, our own lives.
